Beyond Health Care: The Economic Contribution of Hospitals
July 2006 Update
Hospitals support nearly ONE OUT OF EVERY 10 JOBS in the U.S., either directly or indirectly. In 2004, community hospitals employed nearly 5 million people and spent about $246 billion on goods and services in addition to employee wages. This report highlights the importance of hospitals to the national economy and hospitals’ contributions to their communities through expenditures and job creation.
