Dear Colleague,

As we say Down South when we are truly enthused: “Yee-haw!”

“Grand Ole Opportunity” – the theme of our 23rd Annual Conference & Exhibition – harmonizes wonderfully with our energized dedication to safe and trusted health care. For the latest on patient safety, enterprise risk management and much more, Nashville  is the place to be Nov. 2-5, 2003.

Once again,
ASHRM has selected a diverse faculty of thought leaders in health care risk management to share insights on matters of vital interest in dozens of engaging sessions. How can staff and leadership be made to see the value of patient safety? What are others doing to weather financial challenges? Take a look at our education sessions.

Our keynote speakers are sure to strike a chord or two, as well. We know how important it is to “tell our story” so that all may learn and improve, and few do that better than Atul Gawande, MD, author of the best-selling book “Complications” as our opening speaker. Anyone seeking a healthy dose of positive energy needs look no further than our Monday speaker, Amanda Gore. And be sure to stick around for our conference closer: Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala will inspire with her tales of triumph in the complex worlds of health care and academia.

Building on the great response from last year’s conference, there will again be a study session (UPDATE: Sorry, session full. No more registrations accepted.) for the
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) designation led by the editors of the CPHRM Study Guide. Anyone who wants to earn one of the profession’s most recognized credentials would be wise to take advantage of this opportunity.

Some refinements for this year’s conference are worth noting here. We’re indicating the content level of education sessions as either “Essentials” (geared to new risk managers and those who’d like a refresher on a particular topic) or “Applications/Advanced” (geared to more seasoned pros who crave more in-depth subject treatment). We’re also asking conferencegoers to indicate their sessions of interest when they register. This will help us place sessions in rooms that can accommodate more people.

There’ll be plenty of grand networking opportunities, too, either on your own as you meet with new and old friends. And nowhere else can health care risk management professionals meet with so many providers of useful products and services. A number of exhibitors will be joining us for the first time.

Of course, there’s no better place to come together than Nashville, a cosmopolitan city
well known for nurturing dynamic, innovative health care companies. Today it’s home to more than 220 health care companies, including some of the world’s biggest. Oh – the music industry’s a pretty big deal, too, and we plan to enjoy a whole lot of it during our downtime!

Y’all come join us!
