Understanding and Implementing the 2009 Patient Safety Goals

The Joint Commission develops and promotes changes to its National Patient Safety Goals each year as new concerns emerge. This year, the Joint Commission’s Sentinel Event Advisory Group is recommending changes that address patient identification, healthcare associated infections, medication safety measures, universal protocol and more. Also, the group recommends retiring and/or replacing goals that are now addressed in the standards.
