Designing the Replacement Facility
Medical advances, aging infrastructures and changing regulations have made many hospitals obsolete. As a result, health care executives are faced with the difficult decision to renovate or replace the facility. Once that decision is made, another set of challenges emerges. To share ideas and experiences found in developing these projects, Health Forum and the American College of Healthcare Architects convened a group of industry experts Oct. 19 in Chicago for a closed-door dialogue addressing the core issues and challenges.

Designing a Healing Environment
Evidence shows that a hospital’s environment can play a significant role in patient experience and outcomes. Healing design can improve a patient’s outlook on care and ultimately increase patient satisfaction. It can also streamline workflow and eliminate the opportunity for medical errors. To examine trends in healing design, Health Forum and the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers convened a group of industry vendors and their health care clients. The group met March 16 in Chicago for a closed-door dialogue.

Trends in Critical Care Planning and Design
Following years of downsizing, restructuring and closures, the U.S. hospital field is in the midst of a construction boom spurred by changing demographics and the need to stay competitive. Inpatient admissions are on the rise, due in part to the aging of the population and to the overall rise in acuity. The net result: a shortage of critical care beds in certain markets.

To examine trends in critical care design, Health Forum and the American College of Healthcare Architects convened a group of architects and their health care clients. The group met Oct. 24 for a closed-door dialogue in Chicago.
